FAQ

Need to know a little more?

Can I bring my laptop?

During your stay at our Retreat we encourage you to take a complete break and disconnect from work and technology. When do you ever get a chance to do that? Not often huh?

We strongly recommend you leave the laptop and all technology devices at home and encourage you to use this opportunity to solely focus on you, your health and wellbeing without distractions.

How can i take home/integrate what i have learned?

For us it is extremely important to support you on your journey after the retreat to ensure you get the most out of your experience and continue to follow all the information we have provided.

With our ongoing continual subscription to our ‘For Lifers’ online support group, you have instant access to information, recipes, troubleshooting forums, group support and support from the retreat practitioners. We are committed to you and we want you to succeed and continue to improve your digestive health.

Can I smoke?

For Life Retreats is a strictly non-smoking retreat. If you are a smoker we suggest you gradually reduce the amount of cigarettes per day on the weeks leading up to the retreat.

Do you have an age limitation?

We cater for women for the ages from 18-75+

Will I experience detoxification symptoms?

It depends on your diet/lifestyle in your everyday life.

If you are dependant on coffee, we highly recommend phasing out any caffeine products up to one week prior to the retreat, to ensure you aren’t suffering caffeine withdrawals and to get the most out of your time.

If you are dependant on sugary treats (fruit is okay) you might experience slight withdrawal symptoms such a headaches, mood swings and fatigue, as our menus are mostly sugar-free. Again we recommend phasing refined and processed sugars out one week prior to the retreat.

Introducing probiotics rich foods can also introduce similar symptoms for first day, known as “die off reaction”. As you introduce probiotics bacteria into the digestive system, they start destroying pathogenic bacteria. When these pathogens die, they release toxins. We will talk more about this at the retreat and the power of probiotics foods.

I have food intolerances/sensitivities/allergies. Will they be accommodated?

Absolutely. We also have certain foods we cannot eat/tolerate so we know from first-hand experience that it can be challenging. If you have limitations to your diet, we will identify these in your initial consultations and inform our chef to cater for you at the retreat. We don’t want you missing out!

I don't like exercise. Do I have to participate?

We don’t force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. However, the movement part of our program is an integral part of overall health. Therefore we recommend you give it a go at your own pace.

We support all kinds of fitness levels and our practitioners are experienced to make you feel that you’re getting the most out of moving your body. We want to make movement an enjoyable activity for you.

How many people will participate?

The retreat is an intimate experience. We have space for ten (10) women at the retreat.

How should I prepare for the retreat?

If you drink coffee or alcohol we suggest you limit your intake leading up to the retreat to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Try to finalize all work-related tasks as much as possible to ensure you can switch off and focus on your health and well being, all to get the most out of the retreat.

Please inform loved ones you are attending the retreat so they can be there to support you once you return home.

What should I bring?

We suggest bringing comfortable clothing depending on the seasons. During Autumn/Winter we can have cooler nights so please bring warm clothing. For our movement session we recommend you bring some exercise clothes and sports shoes. Sunglasses and bathers are also essential.

If you enjoy reading bring along some books although we will have a retreat library.

But overall ensure you bring with yourself and open mind, and happy attitude for a new experience to enter your life.

What not to bring!

Food or drinks (unless it’s medication) – you won’t go hungry, work assignments, towels, bedding, perfume, makeup, water bottle (one will be provided).

What can I expect from my experience?

Expect to learn new ways of preparing delicious food and eating it, expect to grasp information which could change the way you look at your symptoms and how to manage them, expect to meet like minded women who are facing similar challenges, expect to experience your body and mind in a different, inspiring way. Expect to laugh and have fun, be nurtured and cared for.

Do I need to have a digestive issue to participate in the retreat?

Not necessarily – prevention is key. The information and experience we provide with For Life Retreats are valuable for everyone. You might not experience any symptoms but would like to learn more in order to prevent any disease and make more informed decisions about your diet and lifestyle. Or perhaps one of your family members or close friends is struggling with digestive problems and you would like to learn more to support them.

I have a diagnosed disease. Can I participate?

Please contact us via e-mail to discuss. We cater for a wide range of conditions but need to know prior if you are dealing with a specific/serious condition such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc.

You should also advise your current health care management team that you are attending the retreat.

Will You Serve Alcohol and Coffee?

For Life Retreats are aimed at supporting your digestion on its way back to health. Alcohol and coffee will interfere in this process, therefore are not part of the program.

Does the retreat include flights?

You know best which times work for you from and to which airports so from experience, we have found it works best for retreat guest to make their own travel arrangements.

Airport transfers from Ballina and Gold Coast are included.

Will I feel hungry?

Our menu is designed to nourish your body and satisfy your taste buds. Depending on your current way of eating, it might take a little adjusting to a belly-friendly diet but don’t worry, we’ll ensure you leave the retreat with a happy belly.

What time should I arrive? Leave?

We recommend that you arrive between 1-3pm on the day the retreats commences. This will allow you enough time to settle into your accommodation and get ready for the first group activity at 4pm. Note this time when scheduling your flights or transport.

The retreat finishes at 1pm on the date nominated. Please make sure you don’t leave beforehand as the last moments of our program are an essential part of the overall experience.

Can I use my mobile phone?

As we have mentioned before, you will benefit most if you disconnect from the outside world for the duration of the retreat to focus on you and your health.

We encourage keeping your mobile phone switched off at all times. Use of your mobile is restricted to your own villa. In case of emergency, friends and family can also contact you via the retreat number.
